Castle & Key Distillery Transportation on McCracken Pike

Chauffeured rides to Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort from Louisville, SDF and Lexington. Walk the gardens; you reserve the tour and we drive.

The grounds-and-photos stop

Castle & Key Distillery occupies the former Old Taylor Distillery at 4445 McCracken Pike in Frankfort, and its visit page highlights a botanical trail and springhouse that are open to all guests. That makes it the stop where groups slow down, walk, and take the photos they will actually keep. It sits on the same narrow country road as Woodford Reserve, about 10 minutes apart, so the two make a natural pair. This page is about giving the grounds the time they deserve and enjoying the McCracken Pike drive between them.

Leave time for the grounds

Most distillery stops are a tour, a tasting and the shop. Here, the botanical trail and springhouse add a walk, and groups routinely want more time than they planned. We suggest building in extra time after your reserved experience so nobody feels hurried back to the vehicle. Wear walking shoes and bring a layer, since much of it is outdoors.

Castle & Key's site also names Counter 17, a walk-up bar for drinks, which gives non-tasters and early finishers a place to wait.

The McCracken Pike leg

McCracken Pike is a scenic, narrow rural road that links Castle & Key and Woodford Reserve through horse country. It is the prettiest ten minutes of driving in the region, and it is also the reason we ask for your group size and vehicle when you reserve. Larger vehicles need the right route, and we plan it before the day.

Getting there

From downtown Louisville, the drive is about 75 minutes, roughly 57 miles. From SDF, about 80 minutes. From downtown Jeffersonville, about 75 minutes. Capital City Airport in Frankfort is about 25 minutes away, and Signature Aviation at Lexington about 35.

Pickups

We pick up at Louisville hotels and homes, in Southern Indiana, at SDF with flight tracking, and at Lexington hotels for guests staying on that side. If the group is splitting between two hotels, list both on the quote.

Food and pacing

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail lists food options here, but we have not confirmed what is served, so check Castle & Key's site before you count on lunch. A reliable plan is to eat at Buffalo Trace's John G. Carlisle Cafe, about 20 minutes away, before or after. Bring a valid photo ID for the tasting.

Pairing with Woodford Reserve or Buffalo Trace

Woodford Reserve is about 10 minutes away on the same road. Buffalo Trace is about 20 minutes away. Our Frankfort and Versailles loop runs Buffalo Trace, then Castle & Key, then Woodford.

A short McCracken Pike day from Lexington

Guests staying in Lexington have the easiest version of this stop. From Signature Aviation at Blue Grass Airport or a Lexington hotel, Castle & Key is roughly 35 minutes away. Spend the late morning on the grounds and your reserved experience, ride about 10 minutes along McCracken Pike to Woodford Reserve for an afternoon tour, and head back, about 30 minutes. That is well under two hours of driving for two distilleries.

From Louisville, the same pair sits at the end of our Frankfort and Versailles loop, with Buffalo Trace first for lunch. Either way, send us the time of your Castle & Key experience and how long the group wants on the grounds afterward, and we will set the next leg so the walk never feels rushed. Bottles bought on the grounds ride in the vehicle for the rest of the day, and our shuttles have secure bottle storage if the group is buying for friends back home.

Reserve your tour directly

Reserve your tour and tasting directly with Castle & Key on its website. Send us your times, and your chauffeur handles the driving and the timing between stops.

Choosing a vehicle

For a photo-heavy day, a stretch limousine or a luxury SUV looks right against the old stone buildings. Larger groups ride a shuttle, and we confirm the route for it in advance. See our fleet page for vehicle sizes. Every chauffeur is background-checked and trained; our safety standards are on the safety page.
