Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery Transportation on Whiskey Row

Get to Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery at 801 W Main St with a private chauffeur from downtown hotels, SDF or Southern Indiana. You reserve; we drive.

The Museum Row anchor

Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery stands at 801 West Main Street, and Michter's notes that it sits across the street from the Louisville Slugger Museum & Bat Factory. That pairing is the reason this page exists. A west-Main afternoon can hold the museum, a Michter's tour, a drink at The Bar at Fort Nelson, and a pickup for dinner, all within a few blocks. It suits visitors who came without a car and mixed groups where a few people would rather see bats being turned than sit through a tasting.

A west-Main afternoon, block by block

Start with the museum while everyone is fresh, cross Main Street for the Michter's tour you reserved, then settle in at The Bar at Fort Nelson if you booked a table there. Guests who skip the tour can stay on the museum side of the street and meet the group afterward. Your chauffeur picks everyone up at the end and takes the group to dinner or back to the hotel.

Museum tickets and bar reservations are separate from anything we do. Book those yourselves; we handle the rides on either side.

Getting there

From most downtown hotels the drive is about five minutes and under a mile, and in good weather the walk is pleasant. The ride matters in heat or rain, for anyone with limited mobility, and for the trip back after dinner. From SDF, allow about 20 minutes. From downtown Jeffersonville, it is about 10 minutes over the river.

Pickups

We collect from downtown hotels, homes across Louisville, and Southern Indiana addresses. Arriving at SDF? We track the flight, so you can land, drop bags at the hotel or keep them in the vehicle, and still reach West Main for an afternoon tour. Private aircraft landing at Bowman Field are a short drive from downtown, and our Bowman page explains that meetup.

Planning the visit

The Bar at Fort Nelson is named on Michter's own site with its own reservation link. We have not confirmed its food menu, so treat it as a place for a drink unless the bar's page says otherwise. Bring a photo ID for the tasting. Michter's has posted early closures on its page in the past, so check it before you lock in a date.

Comfortable shoes help if the group plans to walk to a second stop on Whiskey Row. A light layer is useful too, since you will move between air-conditioned buildings and the street.

Nearby stops on Whiskey Row

The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience is about 0.2 miles east, and Kentucky Peerless Distilling is about 0.2 miles away on North 10th Street. Both are covered in our Whiskey Row walk-and-ride plan, which starts at Michter's and works east. If you are landing the same day, our fly-in first bourbon day shows how a downtown stop fits after an SDF arrival.

A sample afternoon on West Main

Here is how a typical Michter's afternoon comes together. Your chauffeur collects the group at the hotel and makes the short run to 801 West Main. Anyone who wants the Louisville Slugger Museum & Bat Factory can go there first, since it sits across the street and nobody needs the vehicle between the two. Then comes the Michter's tour you reserved and, if you booked it, a drink at The Bar at Fort Nelson.

From there the rest of the day is flexible. Some groups walk east along Main Street toward the other Whiskey Row stops; others want a pickup straight to dinner. Total driving on a day like this is usually well under half an hour, which is exactly why visitors without a rental car like it. Guests staying in Jeffersonville or Clarksville add only about ten minutes each way for the river crossing.

What to send us

Send the Michter's tour time, any bar reservation, the museum visit if you plan one, and the restaurant for dinner. If some of the group is skipping the tour, tell us where they will be, and we will plan the pickup so everyone meets up at the same place.

Reserve your tour directly

Reserve your Michter's tour on its website. If you'd like the bar afterward, check its reservation page too. We'll handle the rides on either side. Walk-in and reservation rules are set by Michter's, and its page is where they are kept current.

Choosing a vehicle

For a short downtown loop, a luxury SUV or a chauffeured car handles a small family or a pair of colleagues. A convention team or a reunion group that wants to stay together fits a shuttle. See our fleet page for vehicle sizes. Every chauffeur is background-checked and trained; our safety standards are on the safety page.
