Who this day is for
This plan answers one question: can you see the Bourbon Capital in a single day from Louisville without a long, tired drive home? Yes, if the day is built around one lunch on a distillery campus and two Bardstown stops that sit about 10 minutes apart. You start at the James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Clermont, eat at The Kitchen Table there, and spend the afternoon at Heaven Hill and Willett. Total driving is about 2 hours and 25 minutes, and your chauffeur does all of it.
The day at a glance
Legs are approximate and assume normal traffic. Add time for weather, construction and event days, and check each distillery for its current tour times.
- Pickup. A downtown, East End or airport-area hotel in Louisville. Next leg: about 40 minutes to Clermont.
- Stop 1: James B. Beam Distilling Co.. Morning tour, then lunch at The Kitchen Table on campus. Next leg: about 30 minutes to Bardstown.
- Stop 2: Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience. Early-afternoon tour or tasting. Next leg: about 10 minutes.
- Stop 3: Willett Distillery. Late-afternoon tour, or a table at The Bar at Willett. Next leg: about 65 minutes home to Louisville.
- Total driving. About 2 hours 25 minutes across the whole day.
Why this order works
Clermont sits on I-65 on the way south, so it opens the day with the shortest countryside leg and gives you a lunch stop before you reach Bardstown. Nobody has to hunt for a restaurant between afternoon tours.
The two Bardstown stops are about 10 minutes apart, so the afternoon has almost no dead time in the car. Willett goes last because it is on the Loretto Road side of town, which puts the one long leg, the ride home, at the end of the day, when nobody but the chauffeur is driving.
Stop-by-stop notes
James B. Beam Distilling Co., Clermont
Reserve the earliest tour that suits your group. The Kitchen Table keeps its own days and hours, separate from the distillery's, so check both before you count on lunch there. The campus is big, and the extra walking is a good reason to eat before moving on.
Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience, Bardstown
Heaven Hill runs some experiences with its own shuttle to its Heaven Hill Springs Distillery. If yours includes that ride, the group takes Heaven Hill's shuttle for that part, and we pick up again at the visitor center.
Willett Distillery, Bardstown
Willett takes tour and dining reservations separately. If you would rather end with a meal than a third tour, reserve a table at The Bar at Willett instead. Read Willett's visit rules before you go.
Swaps and variants
Bardstown pair swap: replace Heaven Hill and Willett with Bardstown Bourbon Company and Lux Row, which are about five minutes apart. Lunch can move to Bardstown Bourbon Company's Kitchen & Bar, which frees up the morning at Clermont for a longer visit. Or keep Heaven Hill and eat at its Five Brothers Bar & Kitchen instead of The Kitchen Table.
Loretto variant: go straight from Louisville to Maker's Mark, about 95 minutes, and eat at Star Hill Provisions on site. Then ride about 35 minutes to Heaven Hill or Willett, and about 65 minutes home. Total driving is about 3 hours and 15 minutes, so plan two stops that day, not three.
Staying over: if you would rather sleep closer to the distilleries, our hotels article compares Bardstown and downtown Louisville as a base.
Pickup notes
Louisville hotels: your chauffeur arrives at the hotel entrance at the time on your confirmation. SDF arrivals: Clermont is about 35 minutes from the airport, and flight tracking is standard; our SDF-to-Bardstown article covers a straight airport transfer. Southern Indiana: Clermont is about 40 minutes from downtown Jeffersonville, and our Southern Indiana day has an Indiana-first plan. Private flyers: Samuels Field in Bardstown is about 10 minutes from Heaven Hill.
Tips for this day
Reserve the three tours in order, and leave at least the drive leg plus 30 minutes between the end of one tour and the start of the next. Eat in Clermont rather than planning to find something in Bardstown between tours. Bottle purchases ride in the vehicle for the rest of the day. Concierge stocking of water and snacks is available on request when you reserve.
If plans change on the day
Tours run long, lunch takes longer than planned, and sometimes a group simply wants more time at one stop. Because the afternoon sits inside a small area, your chauffeur can absorb most of that: the Bardstown legs are short enough that a late finish at Heaven Hill rarely threatens the Willett reservation. If a delay does put a tour at risk, your chauffeur will tell you early, while there is still time to call the distillery about your reservation. The one fixed piece is the ride home, about 65 minutes, so avoid booking a Louisville dinner too close to the end of the last tour.
What to send us
Send the three tour times in order, your lunch plan, the pickup address and your headcount. If you choose the Bardstown pair swap or the Loretto variant, tell us which, so we plan the right route from the start.
Reserve your tours directly
Reserve each tour and tasting directly on the distillery's website, then send us the times. Your chauffeur builds the day around them and handles every drive in between.
Choosing a vehicle
Two and a half hours of driving is comfortable in a luxury SUV for a small group. A larger party of friends or coworkers usually takes a shuttle, which has secure bottle storage for the whole day. See our fleet page for vehicle sizes. Every chauffeur is background-checked and trained; our safety standards are on the safety page.
